Kolkata hotel caught fire, 15 killed

In Kolkata’s Phalpatti fisherman area, 15 people were killed and 13 people were injured in a fire in a hotel on Tuesday night. The fire has been controlled. 22 people were rescued.

According to the police, the dead include 2 women and 1 child. At the same time, 8 of the 12 men have been identified.

Police Commissioner Manoj Verma said- The fire started at Rituraj Hotel at around 8:15 pm. As soon as the information was received, the fire brigade and police teams reached the spot and started relief work. So far 14 bodies have been removed. Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the accident.

Initial investigation has revealed that the power meter on the fourth floor of the hotel caught fire due to short circuit. A man present at the scene said that many people were seen jumping from the hotel roofs and windows to save their lives.

PM Modi expressed grief over the accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mourned the accident. The PM said, ‘I am very sad about the news of people’s death. This is the wish, the injured should be cured soon. A assistance of ₹ 2 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund (PMNRF) and ₹ 50,000 to the injured.

Bengal BJP President said- Government should provide necessary assistance
Union Minister and Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar expressed grief over the accident. Also said- I urge the state administration to save the affected people immediately and ensure their safety. Strict rules of fire safety should be made to ensure that such an event should not happen in future.

Congress President said- There were no security arrangements
West Bengal Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar said- This is a tragic accident. There were no security arrangements. Do not understand what Kolkata Municipal Corporation is doing.
