Nepal: Home Minister of Koshi government deported from Japan airport arrested on charges of human trafficking.

Kathmandu, 10 November (HS). The Home Minister of Kosi State Government has been arrested by Nepal Police on Sunday afternoon from his residence in Biratnagar on charges of human trafficking. Just a few days ago, he was deported from an airport in Japan and brought to Nepal. This minister is accused of going to Japan illegally and taking some people with him. The people who went to Japan with this minister have been arrested by the security forces there.

Kosi State Home Minister Leela Vallabh Koirala has submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister of the state government even before his arrest today. After his arrest, Koirala has been sent to Kathmandu by plane. Home Minister Koirala was being criticized a lot for going to Japan without the government’s approval. He had gone to Japan with some people to attend a cultural program organized in Tokyo. He was deported from Tokyo airport to Nepal for taking people abroad unauthorized by making illegal documents, while four people accompanying him were arrested there with fake documents.

Viratnagar Police SP Narayan Prasad Chimariya said that after receiving formal information from Japan Immigration about the deportation of Koirala, investigation into the case against him was started here. Meanwhile, the police has arrested the minister from Biratnagar on charges of giving fake invitation letter to Japan and helping in sending other people to Japan. On the request of the Central Research Bureau in Kathmandu, State Home Minister Leela Vallabh Koirala is being arrested and sent to Kathmandu.

This is the first time that a person holding the post of minister has been arrested on charges of human trafficking. Although a similar allegation was leveled against the Deputy Speaker of Nepal and the ruling party had also decided to remove him, but the matter is still pending due to not being able to gather the required two-thirds majority for impeachment.

Kosi State Chief Minister Hikmat Karki said that before going to Japan, Home Minister Koirala had not given any formal information nor had his visit been approved by the Cabinet. He told that Koirala had resigned from the post even before his arrest. Meanwhile, Koirala’s party NCP AML has also suspended him from the general membership of the party.
