New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed the petition of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, seeking a stay on the proceedings of the lower court in the corruption case lodged by the CBI in the land ‘scam’ in lieu of the job. Justice Ravinder Dudeja said that there are no binding reasons to stay the lower court proceedings. Meanwhile, the court issued a notice to the CBI on the plea of Lalu Prasad to request the cancellation of the FIR filed by the CBI in the case and asked to file a reply within six weeks. The court has fixed August 12 for the next hearing of the case.

What did the court comment?

The court pronounced on May 29 (which was available on 31 May) said in its order, “The current case has been listed before the Special Judge to debate the allegations. Despite the pending of the current petition, the petitioner will have the freedom to make all his arguments before the lower court at the stage of consideration. The court said,” This will be an additional opportunity for the petitioner to keep his talk and take his decision on it. ” Thus, I do not see any binding reason to stop the proceedings of the lower court. Therefore the application filed for adjournment is rejected. ”

Officials said the matter is related to Group D recruitment in the West Central Railway Zone in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh during his tenure as Railway Minister of Lalu Prasad between 2004 and 2009. It is alleged that the plots were transferred in the name of Lalu Prasad’s family members or colleagues instead of these recruitments.

What is Land for Job Case?

The Land for Job Case is between 2004 and 2009. At that time Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister in the UPA-1 government. It is alleged that during this period, there were irregularities in the recruitment of Group D posts in various zones of Indian Railways. According to CBI and ED, Lalu Yadav and his family took land from people at a lower price or free from people in exchange for giving jobs in railways. These lands were transferred in the name of Lalu’s family members (Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Misa Bharti, Hema Yadav etc.) and their associated company, AK Infosystems Private Limited.

The CBI claims that no advertisement or public notice was issued for these recruitments in the Railways, and some people from Patna were appointed as a substitute in zones like Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur, which were later regularized after land deals. Overall, the Lalu family is accused of acquiring about 1.05 lakh sq ft of land and money laundering of Rs 600 crore. The Lalu family says that this matter is inspired by politics and there is no concrete evidence in it.
