Court refuses to stay proceedings in lower court against Lalu Yadav

Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad has suffered a major setback from the Supreme Court in ‘Land for Job Case’. The country’s apex court refused to stay the lower court proceedings against former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad in the CBI land case. A bench of Judge MM Sundresh and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh asked the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing on their petition to cancel the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court also exempted Lalu Yadav from appearance in the lower court in the case.

On May 29 last, the Delhi High Court said that there is no concrete reason to stop the proceedings. The High Court issued a notice to the CBI on the petition of the agency’s FIR to cancel the FIR and adjourned the hearing for August 12.

What is Land for Job Scam?

Let us know that this matter is related to the appointments of group ‘D’ in the western central region of Indian Railways in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh during Lalu Prasad’s Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009. In the case, Lalu is accused of giving jobs to people in lieu of land by him and family while being a railway minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2009. In the case, a case has been registered against his family along with Lalu in the case and it is alleged that Lalu had taken land in bribe in lieu of job in the name of family members. Lalu is alleged to have recruited several people for a group-D job in the railway without issuing any advertisement without being a railway minister.
