Land scam worth crores of rupees exposed in Jammu district
Jammu. The Anti-Corruption Bureau has exposed a multi-crore land scam in Jammu district with cases registered against several revenue officials, land grabbers and their associates. Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) spokesperson said that this recent breakthrough exposes the network linked to revenue officials and a land mafia which is involved in the scam of about 40 kanals of custodian land in Asrwan area which was illegally acquired by the land mafia. The spokesperson said that hundreds of kanals of custodian land in Asarwan, Mishriwala and Bhalwal in Jammu were fraudulently grabbed by land grabbers and criminals with the connivance of some revenue and police officials.
He said that in many cases the records were tampered and the land was sold to different people. During verification, the ACB found that Form 3-A (Form Alpha) and Power of Attorney (POA) documents were obtained from refugees from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of a criminal conspiracy. They said they were given false promises of additional land or offered immediate payment by middlemen linked to land grabbers. Revenue officials then altered the records to show additional plots of custodian land in the names of these persons.
He said these lands were later sold to various buyers including gang leaders, causing huge losses to the government. He informed that due to clear evidence of nexus between land grabbers and revenue officials in illegally transferring custodian land, ACB has arrested Pranab Dev Singh (Patwari), Rahul Kai (Patwari), Akil Ahmed (Naib Tehsildar), Paloda Nagbani. A case has been registered against Rajinder Sharma, Varinder Gupta, Jagdish Chandra and Maqbool Chaudhary of Marh along with other officials of the revenue and custodian departments. During the investigation, search teams including ACB officers, independent witnesses and magistrates conducted raids at six locations in Jammu and surrounding areas after obtaining search warrants from the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu. He said that so far around 16 FIRs have been registered as part of the ongoing investigation while the verification is still underway to trace the additional custodian land taken fraudulently with the involvement of officials from revenue, police and custodian departments.
