Vientiane, October 18 (IANS). The Laos government is ready to take new initiatives to improve the education level of the country. The government will strive to raise the standards of education as well as improve the distribution of study materials.

In a speech on the occasion of Lao National Teachers’ Day, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone called on teachers to take more responsibility and strive for higher professional standards, Xinhua news agency quoted the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports as saying on Friday. .

Sonexe directed school administrators and teachers to encourage underperforming children to retake classes, keep abreast of curriculum developments and review fundamental teaching concepts, organize and participate in seminars on teaching methods. Also evaluate their progress.

Teachers must learn to use modern technology and sources of information. They should also take initiative in broadening their knowledge and social skills, learn to use and teach foreign languages, and engage in lifelong learning, so that they can provide better knowledge to their students.

Sonexe urged parents to remind their children of the importance of education and encourage them to participate in higher education programs.

The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports is planning to draw up a national action plan aimed at improving education standards and solving the problem of teacher shortage.
