Lawyers do not want to work on holidays: CJI
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gawai said on Wednesday that lawyers do not want to work during the holidays, but judges are held responsible for the increasing burden (backlog) of cases.
Actually, the bench of CJI Gawai and Justice Augustine George Christ was hearing a case. A lawyer then demanded to hear his petition after a summer holiday.
Work will be done in partial functioning even in summer
The Supreme Court has recently issued a notification, stating that the court will continue to work partially from May 26 to July 13.
During this time, 2 to 5 benches will sit every week. The special thing is that five judges of the Supreme Court, including CJI themselves, will hear cases even during the holidays, whereas earlier it was not done. Earlier there were only two vacation benches and senior judges did not come to court on holidays.
CJI Gawai will also come to court even during the holidays
From 26 May to 1 June, CJI Gawai, Justice Suryakant, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice B. V. Nagratna and Justice JK will hear the Maheshwari cases.
During this period, the registry of the Supreme Court will be open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Registry will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
