When is Pandharpur Vari removed:
Pandharpur Vari is mainly taken out on the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi i.e. Ashadhi Ekadashi of Ashada month for the purpose of reaching Pandharpur. In the year 2025, Ashadhi Ekadashi is on 6 July 2025, Sunday.
– It is a 21 -day walking journey, which starts from different places and ends in Pandharpur. There are two main parents:
1. Saint Tukaram Maharaj Palki: Will depart from Dehu on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
2. Saint Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palki: Will depart from Aandi on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Why is Pandharpur Vari removed: Pandharpur Vari is a symbol of unwavering devotion and love towards Lord Vithoba. There are many reasons behind the removal of Pandharpur Vari, Varkari believes that this walking journey gives them salvation and blesses Lord Vithoba. This journey is mainly traditions launched by Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj. Walking on his footprints, devotees walk with his palanquins singing his desolation ie devotional songs.

History of Pandharpur Wari: The tradition of Pandharpur Wari has been going on for more than 800 years. It is believed that it was started by Saint Dnyaneshwar Maharaj in the 13th century, who traveled from Aandi to Pandharpur with his palankhi. Later, Sant Tukaram Maharaj also started his tradition of his palankhi Vari from Dehu to Pandharpur.
These saints and poets spread the message of devotion to Lord Vithoba through their desires ie devotional poems, which made the Varkari sect popular.
