Jyeshtha Purnima has special significance in our Hindu tradition. On the day of Jyeshtha Purnima, the festival of ‘Snan Yatra’ of Lord Jagannath is celebrated in Jagannathpuri in Odisha in which the wood Deities of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra ji are brought out of the temple for bathing. After bringing Shri Vigrahas out of the temple, he is wearing cotton dress and seated on a flower posture. After seating on the flower posture, Lord Jagannath is bathed by 108 golden characters with sandalwood mixed cold water.

According to the scriptures, there is a story that Lord Jagannath himself had ordered the Maharaj himself to dug a well near the temple and take his bath with its cool water and instructed anyone not to visit him for 15 days after this bath.

Lord Jagannath gets fever (fever) and becomes unwell due to bathing with cold water in the scorching heat of the eldest. According to the scriptures, Lord Jagannath’s unwell is called ‘fever’. This period of 15 days is called ‘Anavasar’. In this period of ‘Anavasar’, Lord Jagannath is offered herbs, khichdi, porridge and fruit juice for health benefits. After the Anavasar period, Lord Jagannath gets completely healthy and leaves on a chariot to meet his devotees, which is called the famous ‘Rath Yatra’. Every year this ‘Rath Yatra’ is taken out on the second date of Ashada Shukla Paksha.
