Lord Jagannath’s chariot journey stops in front of whose tomb, know who was Salbeg
salabega jagannath story: Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra, which is seen by millions of devotees around the world, has many secrets and amazing traditions in itself. One of these traditions is that Lord Jagannath’s chariot stopped at a distance of about 200 meters from the temple during the Rath Yatra. This stagnation occurs for some time, after which the chariot again goes out on its journey. But have you ever wondered what is the reason behind this unique stagnation? This stagnation is a symbol of reverence and love of a devotee, whose story still makes millions of people emotional – they are devotees Salbeg.
Who was Salbeg,
Salbeg was a devotee who was born in the 17th century in Odisha. His life was full of adverse circumstances and social bonds. Salbeg was a Muslim father and a Brahmin mother’s child. His father, Lalbeg, was a commander of the Mughal army. For this reason, Salbeg faced social boycott and discrimination since childhood.
Salbeg also joined the army like his father in his youth. However, in a war they were seriously injured and they felt that their end was near. At the same time, he got to hear from his mother about the glory of Lord Jagannath and his miracles. Salbeg, immersed in despair and pain, prayed to Lord Jagannath to save his life. It is said that by the grace of Lord Jagannath, he was miraculously cured.
After this incident, Salbeg decided to dedicate his life to devotion to Lord Jagannath. He left the army and started singing hymns and kirtans of Lord Jagannath as a devotee. However, due to the social rules of that time, they were not allowed to enter the Jagannath temple in Puri, as they were Muslims. It was very sad for him, because his soul was completely absorbed in Lord Jagannath.
Why does Jagannath Lord’s chariot stay on the tomb of Salbeg

Every year during the Rath Yatra, Salbeg used to come to Puri to see Lord Jagannath. Since they were not allowed to enter the temple, they used to stand on the path of the Rath Yatra, standing there today and waiting for the chariot of God. His devotion was so deep and pure that when the chariot reached him, he would stop automatically. This incident used to happen every year, due to which people were surprised.
It is believed that Lord Jagannath himself used to stop the chariot to give darshan to his beloved devotee Salbeg. Salbeg used to see God during this stagnation and offer his devotion. When Salbeg died, he was buried at the same place where he stood during the Rath Yatra and saw God. Even today, the tomb of Salbeg is present at that place.
This is the reason that even today Lord Jagannath’s chariot stops in front of Salbeg’s tomb. This stagnation is not only a tradition, but a symbol of an immortal love story. This indicates that devotion has no religion, caste or social bond for God. This story teaches us that true love and dedication can break any wall and God must hear the call of his devotees, even if they come from any background.
