Reason for origin: According to the legend of the society, Yudhishthira Samvat 9 Jyeshtha Shukla Navami had freed the 72 Kshatriyas that had converted into stone due to the curse of the sages. After this, he had said that from today onwards your dynasty will be imprinted, that is, you will go to the name Maheshwari. In this way Maheshwari society was born. That is why Lord Mahesh and Mother Parvati are considered the founder of Maheshwari Samaj.
mythology:
According to the legend of Mahesh Navami, there was a Khadgalsen king. The subjects were pleased with the king. The king and subjects were engaged in the works of religion, but the king was sad due to the king having no children. The king performed the Kamantha Yajna with the desire to get a son. The sages and sages blessed the king to be a brave and mighty son, but also said to stop him from going to the north direction for 20 years.
The ninth month was born by the Lord’s grace. The king performed the naming ceremony with great pomp and named the son Sujan Kanwar. He soon became accomplished in brave, stunning and all the disciplines. Sujan Kanwar had faith in Jainism since childhood. One day a Jain monk came to that village. Kunwar Sujan was very impressed with his sermons. He started promoting Jainism. Gradually, people started increasing faith in Jainism. Jain temples began to be constructed from place to place.
One day he went to the forest to play hunting and suddenly Rajkumar Sujan Kanwar started going towards the north. They did not agree even after the soldiers refuse. In the north direction, Rishi was performing Yajna near Surya Kund. The atmosphere was buzzing with the Veda sound. Seeing this, the prince got angry and said- ‘I did not let me come in the north direction in the dark’ and he sent all the soldiers and created obstacles in the yagna. For this reason, the sages got angry and cursed them and they all became stoned.
The king gave up his life as soon as he heard this. His queens became sati. Rajkumar Sujan’s wife Chandravati went to the sages with the wives of all the soldiers and started apologizing. The sages said that our curse cannot fail, but worship Lord Bholenath and mother Parvati. Everyone prayed to God with a sincere heart and Lord Mahesh and mother Parvati blessed them of being unbroken fortunate and daughter -in -law. Chandravati told the whole account and all together prayed to survive 72 soldiers. Mahesh was pleased with the worship of God wives and gave life to everyone.
On the orders of Lord Shankar, the ancestors of this society left the Kshatriya Karma and adopted Vaishya Dharma. Therefore, even today, all Maheshwari society worships Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati with reverence and devotion on this day and it is known as ‘Maheshwari Samaj’.
