Mobile verification may have to be charged for many services including UPI
Mobile verification
Mobile verification may now have to be paid for many services including UPI. The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) is going to bring a new rule regarding this. This new rule will help prevent fraud activity. The Department of Telecommunications has proposed a change in cyber security rules, so that the events of financial frauds can be easily curbed.
According to the PTI report, the new cyber security rule has been dragged on 24 June. In this, it has been recommended to create a new platform about this, which has been asked to include all the entities that have a license to do KYC i.e. Customer Verification.
What is the new rule?
After the implementation of this rule, it has been proposed to take charge for every mobile verification. Verification entities include all types of government and non -government agencies from UPI service providing banks. This MNV (Mobile Number Verification) platform proposed by the Department of Telecommunications will check, which user or enterprise is currently being used by the mobile number. Through this new mechanism, it can be detected in the database of authorized entity or license holders.
How much will be charged?
DOT has mentioned all the entities in the new cyber security rules that use phone numbers or their transactions to verify customers. These entities are called tiue or telecommunication identifier user entity. It has been proposed in the new rule that if the entities are authorized by the central government or the state government, then every mobile number will be charged for verification of Rs 1.5. At the same time, a charge of Rs 3 will be charged by private entities for every request.
The Department of Telecommunications has sought comments on this draft from stake holders and parties showing interest for this in 30 days. This new rule will work to strengthen the transaction details of any user to the government authorized agencies or law enforcement agencies.
Bank made preparations
According to the report, banks are already doing a pilot project test to test this new mechanism. This mechanism will work to flag the numbers that will already indulge in a fraud activity. These flagged mobile numbers will be deactivated for 90 days. Not only this, the history of that number will also be automatically deleted after 90 days, so that after 90 days, if any other user is allotted this number then he cannot be affected.
