Mohammad Nabi will retire from ODI after Champions Trophy
New Delhi, 8 November (Hindustan Reporter). Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to retire from ODI cricket after the upcoming Champions Trophy. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Naseeb Khan confirmed this to Cricbuzz on Friday.
“Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy and he has informed the board about his wish,” Naseeb told Cricbuzz. He told me a few months ago that he wanted to end his ODI career after the Champions Trophy and we welcome his decision. After the Champions Trophy, I think he is expected to continue his T20 career and that is the plan as of now.
Nabi played his first ODI for Afghanistan in 2009 against Scotland and made his mark by scoring a half-century in his debut match. He scored 3549 runs in 165 ODIs at an average of 27.30 and also took 171 wickets.
In the first match of the ongoing three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Sharjah, Nabi scored a brilliant 82 and played an important role in taking his team to 235 runs, in reply Bangladesh were all out for 143 runs. Allah Ghazanfar took six wickets for Afghanistan.
