Monsoon with the most rainfall in North India after 2013, this data will be shocked
Monsoon rain
New Delhi: North India has recorded the most rainfall monsoon since 2013. With 21% more than normal, this monsoon has been recorded. Widely, in August, the region has experienced the most ‘extremely heavy’ rains since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) started collecting this data in 2021.
21 extreme heavy rain incidents till 25 August
As of August 25, North India recorded 21 extreme heavy rainfalls, which was 50% higher than the previous highest number recorded last year, even though more rainfall was recorded that month. The number of such incidents is likely to increase further by the end of the month, making the monsoon of this August the most destructive in the region in recent years.
The ‘extremely heavy’ is the highest range of daily rainfall recorded at a weather center by IMD, which is defined as more than 204.5 mm in 24 hours.
North India (or North-West India) is a meteorological area including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan State/Union Territories. Most of the excessive rainfall incidents in North India have taken place in two hill states and union territories Jammu and Kashmir.
Heavy rains also occurred in August last year
Excessive rainfall data of the region shows that in August last year, there was more ‘heavy’ (64.4–115.5 mm) and ‘very heavy’ (115.5-204.4 mm), but the number of ‘extremely heavy’ rainfalls was recorded much compared to August this year.
Last year, North India recorded its highest rainfall month in 28 years since 1996, when the entire region recorded 256.4 mm rainfall. Mahapatra said, “Due to the formation of a trough in East Pakistan, there has been a lot of rain in the region in the last four days. This round is likely to continue for one or two more days.”
This monsoon season has been the highest rainfall in North India for the last three days, on August 25 alone, 21.8 mm of rainfall was recorded, which is four times more than the normal 5.6 mm rainfall of that day.
