Morne Morkel and Ryan Ten Doshet may be discharged, Gautam Ghanbi can get opportunities and reports
A big news related to the Indian camp has come out after the Manchester Test draw against England. According to media reports, two Indian coaches may be discharged after this tour. Team India’s disappointing performance in the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has created concerns within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and there are reports that the roles of bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan Ten Doshet are in serious danger.
According to The Telegraph, BCCI is seriously considering the removal of both coaches, even if India ends the current Test series in England. Due to lack of time, the dismissal of both coaches may continue till the Asia Cup to be held in September. Morkel and Ten Doshet were chosen when the head coach Gautam Gambhir took over last year, but both have failed to perform well in their positions, especially in Test cricket.
Former South African fast bowler Morkel is being criticized that the board is seeing a lack of clear progress in Indian fast bowlers. Meanwhile, questions are also being raised on the contribution of Ten Doshet to the team. Gambhir has previously worked with Ten Doshet with Morkel in Lucknow Super Giants in IPL and Abhishek Nair, assistant coach in Kolkata Knight Riders.
Nair has already been ruled out of the coaching group after India’s disappointing performance in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The report also stated that the board is also keeping a close watch on the team, Ajit Agarkar and fellow member of the panel, Shiv Sundar Das, who is currently with the team in England. The current coaching unit has been able to achieve only four wins in 13 Tests, a record that has intensified the demand for change.
Despite increasing pressure, the BCCI is expected to support Gambhir for a long time. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see what changes BCCI makes in the coming time.
