Ashok Nagar: In a shocking incident, an elderly Dalit couple was allegedly beaten up and made to wear garlands of shoes in Ashok Nagar district district of Madhya Pradesh. According to the police, the incident happened after the couple’s son was accused of being involved in an eve-teasing.

Case registered against ten persons

The police have registered a case against ten persons, who continued to remain at large since the incident came to light. The incident allegedly took place in Kilora village under Mungaoli police station limits on Friday.

The couple has left the village after the incident. As per news agency PTI, the couple’s son was allegedly involved in eve teasing of the wife of one of the accused. Sharing more details, the police said that the accused had tied the 65-year-old man and his 60-year-old wife to a pole, after which they were beaten up and made to wear garlands.

An FIR has been filed in the case, following a complaint by the couple. The police have filed the case under the various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly with common objective), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene act), and 506 (criminal intimidation) as well as provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police are currently on the lookout for all ten accused and efforts are on to nab them at the earliest.

He was then made to drink urine and wear a garland of shoes The video of the incident had gone viral, in which the victim could be seen being publicly shamed and subjected to the harsh punishment, which caused a lot of stir in the social media.
