Mubarak Gul takes oath as Protem Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly

Srinagar. National Conference leader and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mubarak Gul was sworn in as the pro tem speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Saturday. Mubarak Gul was sworn in by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar. He will continue as Protem Speaker until elections are held for a new Speaker. On Friday, the Lieutenant Governor had appointed Gul as the pro tem speaker in pursuance of Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. He will administer the oath to all the members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with Section 24 of the above Act. The oath will be administered on October 21 at 2 pm in Srinagar Assembly. Senior NC leader Gul was elected for the sixth consecutive time in the assembly elections from Idgah constituency in Srinagar district. Born in 1952, Gul is a law graduate and was elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 1983, 1986, 2002, 2008 and 2014. In 1987, he was elected a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. In 2013, he was unanimously elected Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
