There is good news for Mumbaiists. The re -constructed Carnac Bridge, which has now been renamed Sindoor Bridge, was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday. It is being told that this flyover (bridge) is expected to improve the east-west traffic flow in South Mumbai. According to the news, traffic will start for the common people by 3 pm.

What did the Chief Minister say on this occasion

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that Sindoor Bridge is being inaugurated in Mumbai today in place of the damaged Carnac Bridge, which was demolished. Carnac was a tyrannical governor. We know that Operation Sindoor lives in the hearts of Indians. That is why we have decided to change the name of the bridge to Sindoor Bridge. I want to thank Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He has completed the construction of this bridge in record time. I dedicate this bridge to the people of Mumbai. Mumbaikar can start using this bridge from 3 pm today.

This bridge was broken due to security related concerns

Let me tell you, the vermilion bridge which was inaugurated today was earlier called Carnac Bridge. The bridge was later renamed as “Sindoor Bridge” under the name of former Governor James Rivet Carnac under Operation Sindoor. Located near Masjid Bandar Railway Station, this vermilion connects the major commercial areas like Flyover or Bridge, PD Melo Road to Cronophaged Market, Kalbadevi and Mohammad Ali Road. After the 150 -year -old Carnac Bridge was demolished in August 2022 due to security related concerns, BMC has created it.

The bridge is 328 meters long

The bridge was rapidly extended under the leadership of Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar and was completed by 10 June. The bridge is 328 meters long, including 70 meter railway complex and 230 meter access routes. Two steel girders have been used in its construction, each of which weighs 550 MT. The southern girder was established on October 19, 2024, while the Northern Gird was installed on 26 and 30 January 2025 amid controlled railway traffic barriers.
