But, there are some unique temples in India where the traditions that have been going on for centuries are offered meat and liquor offerings to God, and this tradition continues even in the month of Sawan. 1. Kamakhya Temple, Assam: Kamakhya Devi Temple, located on the Nilachal hills in Guwahati, Assam, is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths and is considered a major center of tantra. Meat and fish are offered here to please Mata Kamakhya. This prasad is later distributed among the devotees. This tradition of the temple is centuries old and is considered an integral part of Shakti Puja. Here in Sawan, devotees also offer these special offerings to fulfill their wishes.
2. Tarapith Temple, West Bengal: The Tarapith temple located in Birbhum district of West Bengal is another important Shaktipeeth dedicated to Devi Tara. This temple is famous for its tantric practices and sacrifices. Here the goddess is sacrificed to the flesh of goat, which is offered as an indulgence with alcohol. This offerings are also distributed among the devotees later. It is believed that worshiping mother Tara here fulfills all wishes. In Sawan too, devotees here offer meat and liquor with their special worship.
3. Kaal Bhairav Temple, Ujjain: Many temples dedicated to Lord Shiva’s Rudra Roop, Kaal Bhairav are in India, and among them the Kaal Bhairav Temple of Ujjain is particularly famous. Here God is offered prasad of liquor, which the devotees themselves offer. This tradition has been going on since the era of King Vikramaditya in the Kaal Bhairav temple of Ujjain.
4. Dakshineswar Kali Temple, West Bengal: Dakshineshwar Kali Temple located in Kolkata is also a major Shaktipeeth where Goddess Kali is also offered fish and sometimes goat meat. This temple is known for its grandeur and spiritual importance. Here Maa Kali is worshiped by tantric method. After offering bhog, this offerings are distributed among the devotees. This tradition has also been going on for centuries and it is also followed in Sawan.
5. Muniyandi Swamy Temple, Tamil Nadu: Lord Muniyandi (who is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva) in the Muniyandi Swamy temple of Tamil Nadu, is offered chicken and mutton biryani as a prasad. This biryani is later distributed among the devotees. Similarly, in the Parasic Kadavu temple of Kerala, the Lord is offered fish and toddy. This indicates how diverse and regional characteristics in India are filled with.
