NASA will lay a gas pipeline to the moon under its new Moon mission, know what the scientists are planning?
Science News Desk – American space agency NASA will launch another Moon mission. NASA is working on a plan to lay an oxygen gas pipeline on the south pole of the Moon. NASA has named this new project Artemis. The objective of this project is to establish a permanent human settlement on the Moon and ensure the use of all the resources present on the Moon, but the success of this project will depend on the ability to deliver resources to the Moon. Under the Artemis Project, NASA will lay the Lunar South Pole Oxygen Pipeline (L-SPOP), which aims to revolutionize the lunar surface for the Artemis Project. NASA has invested in developing technology to extract oxygen from lunar regolith and water from lunar ice and now NASA will invest in the gas pipeline project.
Oxygen will be transported to the moon by filling it in containers
By the year 2026, NASA can aim to complete the gas pipeline mission under the Artemis Project. At present NASA is bottling and storing oxygen in liquid form. These containers will be taken to the lunar surface. Although doing so will prove to be very expensive, but if NASA succeeds in doing so, it will prove to be a milestone towards fulfilling the dream of establishing human habitation on the Moon.
NASA envisages laying a 5 kilometer long pipeline. Under L-SPOP, NASA will build robots using metals produced from the lunar regolith. About 2 kilograms of oxygen will be blown per hour. This will also supply the minimum electricity required to live on the moon. With this, humans will be able to live on the moon for more than 10 years without any problem.
