The huge reserves of gas found in the western part of Nepal can reach about 430 billion cubic meters. It can meet the demand for gas for the next 50 years in Nepal. These reserves have been found in the waterfall area of Daizar district. These reports have been prepared by the China Geological Survey (CGS). Let us tell you that this discovery has been made under a bilateral agreement between Nepal and China in 2019.
When was the excavation started?
After the discovery of this gas reserves in Nepal, the possibility of exploiting domestic energy sources has increased considerably. The results of the discovery with the Nepal government have also been shared. According to the report, the first excavation campaign in western Nepal was launched on May 11, 2021. This excavation reached a depth of more than 4,000 meters. In this excavation, an estimated 1.12 billion cubic meter methane was detected in a well.

Nepal’s local news agency Gorakhapatra has said that 4 wells have been targeted in the excavation campaign. The report released has explained the initial results received from only one well. Initial estimates suggest that the estimated gas reserves in the area may reach 430 billion cubic meters.

Dinesh Kumar Napit, deputy director of the Department of Mines and Geology, Nepal and head of the Petroleum Investigation Project, has also shared information about this discovery.
