Aamir Khan’s film ‘Stars Zameen Par’ was released in theaters in the past and was a hit. People praised this film a lot. At the time of release in theaters of the film, Aamir Khan said that the film will not be released on OTT. After this, big OTT platforms like Netflix and Prime Video were left watching. But now amidst the OTT release of this film by Aamir Khan, this platform has won and the film is now being released on YouTube. Aamir Khan has confirmed this last day and told that the film will have to pay prices on YouTube at Rs 100.

Aamir Khan apologizes to lying about digital release

In the press conference held in Mumbai last day, Aamir was asked if he knew that ‘Stars Bhoomi Par’ would be released on YouTube after release in theaters and did he lie to everyone. He admitted to doing so and said, ‘I folded hands and apologize because I lied when I said that’ Stars on the ground ‘will not be released on YouTube. I did this because I had no other option. I had to protect the theater business of the film. I am very loyal to theater, my life has started from cinema. Therefore, I have always tried to protect the theater business of my films. Nevertheless, I apologize because I had to lie. Otherwise, my dreams of this film would end there.

Rescue your stance on pay-per-view versus OTT

Aamir again said that he still believes that the films released on the OTT platform after 8 weeks of release in theaters were not good for the film industry. The actor said, ‘There is a lot of difference between the pay-per-view model and subscription model. When I release the film on a subscription model after 8 weeks, people do not buy my film. They only subscribe to OTT platform. It does not matter whether someone wants to see it or not. I do not want ₹ 125 crore from a big company, I want ₹ 100 from my audience. I believe that the subscription model is just harming us.

Special plan is also for other films

After the press conference, the actor-producer while addressing the journalists, while discussing his plans of pay-per-view, said, ‘OTT platforms are mostly interested in buying films with big stars. Where do everyone go? ‘ Before the film’s release in theaters, Aamir claimed that it would not be available on any platform for at least six months.

The stars will be released on YouTube on August 1, six weeks after its release in theaters, and can be seen for ₹ 100. He plans to release each of his films on YouTube under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, including films like Lagaan (2001), Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Peepli Live (2010). His father, late filmmaker Tahir Hussain’s films will also be uploaded on this platform.
