New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that India and the Philippines are partners with their will and destiny. He made this comment at a time when the two countries insisted on increasing the synergy between their armed forces, increasing the level of strategic partnership to the level of strategic partnership. Following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and the Philippines President Ferdinand Rogos Junior, the two countries have announced to increase mutual relations to the level of strategic partnership. Earlier, the navies of the two countries also conducted joint exercises on the Philippines coast. In the presence of Marcos, PM Modi said, “From the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, we are united under shared values. Our friendship is not just a partnership of the past, it is a promise for the future.”
9 signs on 9 agreements between India and the Philippines
India and the Philippines signed 9 agreements, including the announcement and implementation of strategic partnership, terms of reference for talks between the Army of the two countries, the Air Force and the Navy and cooperation on the peaceful use of space. Modi said that the Philippines is an important partner in India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and ‘Ocean’ (mutual and overall advancement for security and development in areas). He said, “We are committed to peace, security, prosperity and rules-based arrangements in the Indo-Pacific region. We support the freedom of shipping according to international laws.”
Relations increased to strategic partnership levels
PM Modi said, “It is a matter of pleasure that today we have decided to extend our relationship to the level of strategic partnership. A comprehensive action plan has also been prepared to convert the possibilities of this partnership into results.” India and the Philippines are celebrating the completion of 75 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. On this occasion, Modi and Marcos issued a postage stamp. Modi thanked the Philippine government for condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April and standing with India in the fight against terrorism. 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam attack.
‘Trade is increasing between the two countries’
PM Modi said that the growing defense relationship between the two countries is a symbol of deep mutual trust. He said, “As the sea surrounded countries, sea cooperation between India and the Philippines is both natural and necessary. We are working together in the fields of human aid, disaster relief, search and rescue.” The Prime Minister said that under the development partnership, India will increase the number of quick impact projects in the Philippines and will also cooperate in the development of sovereign data cloud infrastructure. He said, “Today (the Philippines) President is in India, three Indian Navy ships are participating in a naval exercise in the Philippines for the first time.” Modi said that trade between the two countries is continuously increasing and has crossed the US dollar mark.
What else did PM Modi say?
PM Modi said, “To further strengthen trade relations, it is our priority to review the Indo-ASES Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible. We have also decided to work towards bilateral preference trade agreement.” Modi said that Indian companies are active in information and digital technology, health, automobiles, infrastructure and mineral areas. He said that in the fields of science and technology, joint research is being done, from virus science to artificial intelligence (AI) and ‘Ad heating manufacturing’ (3-D printing). The Prime Minister said that the Science and Technology Cooperation Scheme between the two countries will give impetus to this partnership. (Language)
