New Maruti Suzuki Dezire has achieved 5 star rating for adult occupants and 4 star rating for children in Global NCAP crash test
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Dezire, scheduled to be launched in India on November 11, has achieved an impressive 5 star Global NCAP rating for adult safety and 4 star rating for child safety. This is a significant step for the country’s largest carmaker, which has often been heavily criticized for the safety ratings of its passenger vehicles.
Equipped with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection features as standard, the new Dezire marks a feat as the first model from Maruti Suzuki to earn a 5 star safety rating under the Global NCAP assessment. Global NCAP’s crash test protocols evaluate frontal and side impact protection across all models, along with electronic stability control (ESC).
For vehicles aiming to achieve the highest star rating, the protocol also mandates assessments of pedestrian protection and side pole impact resilience. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer sent the new Dezire to Global NCAP for testing, where notably, both the bodyshell and footwell area were found to be stable, and the bodyshell was also able to withstand forward loads.
All seating positions are equipped with three-point seat belts, and i-Size anchorages come standard. The report said that the protection provided to the head and neck of the driver and passenger was good, although the driver’s chest received marginal protection, while the passenger’s chest protection was only adequate. The driver and passenger’s knees also got good protection.
The Desire also underwent side impact testing, where it showed good protection for the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. In the side pole impact test, protection for the head, abdomen and pelvis was good, but the chest area received marginal protection. The performance of the ESC was also in line with Global NCAP requirements.
David Ward, Executive Chairman of Towards Zero Foundation, said, “The five-star rating of the new Dezire sets an important safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and other Maruti versions we tested. “Global NCAP warmly welcomes this achievement of voluntary test results.”
