New feature to hide OTP and 2FA code from lock screen,
Android 16 Notifications: Google’s upcoming operating system, recently introduced in its developer preview, unveiled a number of promising features aimed at enhancing user privacy. One of the standout features noted in Android 16 Developer Preview 1 is the automatic hiding of sensitive information, including one-time passwords (OTP) and two-factor authentication (2FA) codes, from the smartphone’s home screen. Major and minor updates Google has indicated that a major Android release will happen in Q2 2025, with a minor update scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year.
Benefits of Android System Intelligence
The new feature takes advantage of Android system intelligence to detect sensitive information and automatically redact them from the lock screen without requiring user intervention. Control over notification visibility Even if users set sensitivity in their device settings, these notifications will still remain hidden. If this feature is disabled, only the name of the app sending the notification will appear on the lock screen. A new setting has been added that allows users to manage which apps can read notifications and to what extent these notifications are hidden.
This feature is particularly beneficial in preventing applications from extracting sensitive information displayed on the lock screen, thereby enhancing user privacy and security. Release Timeline AOSP Transition: Android 16 is set to transition to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3. OTA Update An over-the-air (OTA) update will be released for Google Pixel devices from June 3.
