Recently, one such case has come from Telangana, where millions have been cheated with a 59 -year -old man. Cyber criminals described themselves as a bank official and asked him to update the account address.
Criminals sent APK file to update the address and asked to install in the phone. As soon as the file was installed, cyber criminals got access to the person’s phone. In a short time, Rs 3.92 lakh was withdrawn from his account.
What are APK files?
APK means Android Package Kit is a software program, whose Android smartphone can be manually installed. The app does not need to download from Google Play Store. This package file is specially used to install offline apps. However, the app is updated as soon as the phone arrives online.
However, cyber experts refuse users to install any unknown APK files in the phone. Users are advised to download the verified apps from Google Play Store. While installing the app in the phone, permission of access of cameras, files, phones, photos etc. is sought. While installing cyber criminals APK file, all the permissions of your phone are given to that app, due to which your personal information can be stolen.
How to stop installing APK file?
Generally, installing APK file from unknown sources in all Android smartphones is blocked. However, users go to the phone’s settings and turn on the option with Install from Unknown Source, after which the APK files are easily installed in the phone.
In such a situation, you go to the settings of your phone and go to the option with Install from Unknown Source and turn off its tougle. Also, you should not open messages, links etc. sent by an unknown person. Your vigilance can save you from this kind of fraud.
