The interim government of Bangladesh has issued new currency notes. The picture of the country’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed from the note of Bangladesh. According to reports, the new currency notes have been released on Sunday, 1 June 2025 of three classes i.e. 1,000 taka, 50 taka and 20 taka. However, old notes and coins with a picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will remain in vogue.

There is no picture of any human figure in new currency

This is the first time that there is no picture of Mujibur Rahman on new currency notes. Some media reports quoted a senior Bangladesh officer as saying that there is no picture of any human figure in the new currency series. The cultural heritage of the country has been highlighted by showing natural landscape and historical sites on Bangladesh’s new currency notes.

Photos of Hindu and Buddhist temples

According to the AFP report, bank notes will include Hindu, Buddhist temples, artwork of late Zainul Abedin and National Shaheed Memorial, which pays homage to those killed during the 1971 Liberation War.

Sheikh Hasina is living in India

Mujibur Rahman was murdered on August 1975

Sheikh Hasina’s father Mujibur Rahman is widely seen as a freedom hero in Bengal, but anger towards her daughter has tarnished her legacy. He was also murdered along with most of his family members in a coup by a group of military officers on 15 August 1975. His daughter Sheikh Hasina was then in Germany.
