New twist in IPL before playoffs, ‘Extra Time’ will be available in every match – know why this decision was taken
IPL 2025 BCCI Alloted Extra Time: IPL (IPL) 2025 has taken an important decision in view of the increasing rains threat. Now to start every match, the teams will get an extra time of 120 minutes, not just 60 as before. This rule will now also apply to league matches, whereas earlier this feature was limited to only playoff matches.
The rain has worsened the condition of the IPL 2025 schedule this time, and in such a situation the BCCI has taken a big decision. Now from May 20, teams will get 2 hours of extra time to start all IPL matches. This change will be applicable from the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
Earlier, only the playoff matches used to have 120 minutes of extra time, while this time limit for league matches was just 60 minutes. But now the same rule will apply to all matches so that the matches are not canceled due to rain.
The BCCI has said that the IPL has resumed after a short break and now its finals will be played in Ahmedabad on 3 June. Due to the early start of monsoon, rain can affect many matches, so these changes have been made in the rules.
Let us tell you that the playoffs will be held on 29 and 30 May in Mullanpur, Punjab and the qualifiers-2 and finals in Ahmedabad on 1 and 3 June. The important thing is that Punjab Kings have made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and will play their first knockout match on their home ground.
