New Delhi: The NIA court has extended the custody of Tawwur Rana, accused of the 26/11 terror attack, for 12 days. Please tell that Tahwwur Rana was taken from Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Here the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has extended its custody for 12 days.

Who is Tahwwur Rana?

Tahwwur Hussain Rana is the important name among the major conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai attack. He is considered close to David Coleman Headley, the mastermind of the Mumbai attack. Headley and Rana were friends since school time. Headley later admitted that he was working for Lashkar-e-Taiba and Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.

This terrorist attack shook the entire country. 10 terrorists who brought training in Pakistan, armed with modern weapons targeted congested places in Mumbai. During this time more than 160 people were killed and more than 200 people were injured.

Tehwwur Hussain Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. He took place on 12 February 1961 in Chichawatni, Punjab (Pakistan). He has studied medical and worked as a doctor in the army. He later shifted to Chicago (America) with his wife. During this time he started the Immigration Services Business and during this time he gained Canadian citizenship.

When did the extradition happen?

US President Donald Trump announced the extradition of Tehwwur Rana at a joint press conference at the White House on 13 February 2025. “We are handing over a very dangerous person to India, who is accused of the Mumbai attack,” Trump said. The decision was formally authorized by the Secretary of the US State Department on 11 February 2025. Tahwwur Hussain Rana was extradited in India on 9 April 2025. He reached Palam Airport in Delhi on 10 April 2025 and was immediately detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
