Not Gill or Surya, Sehwag told the names of these three Indian players who may be match winner in Asia Cup 2025
Prior to the Asia Cup 2025, former India opener Virender Sehwag has named the names of three players who can prove to be a match winner for Team India in the tournament. The surprising thing is that neither captain Suryakumar Yadav nor Vice -captain Shubman Gill is included in his list. Sehwag has relied on fast bowler, an explosive opener and a mystery spinner.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes that the Asia Cup 2025 is the power to win the Asia Cup in Team India. In this tournament to be held in UAE, the Indian team will start a campaign against UAE on 10 September and will take on Pakistan on 14 September. Earlier, during a conversation with Sony Sports, Sehwag named the names of the three players whom he consider to be the real match winner of India in the Asia Cup 2025.
The first name in the list of Sehwag came to Jaspreet Bumrah, who is scheduled to return to T20 International after T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah recently played an important role in winning the T20 World Cup to India and according to Sehwag, he always proves to be a game changer. The other name is of young opener Abhishek Sharma, who has scored 535 runs in just 17 T20 Internationals, at a strike rate above 193. The third player is the mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty, who performed brilliantly in the Champions Trophy this year and has taken 33 wickets in 18 matches so far.
Interestingly, Sehwag did not name captain Suryakumar Yadav and Vice -captain Shubman Gill in this list. He says that Bumrah, Abhishek and Varun are players who can be a match winner in the Asia Cup 2025.
Sehwag also emphasized the importance of Bumrah’s workload management. He said that to win big tournaments, it is very important for bowlers like Bumrah to be fit. Looking at the figures, Bumrah has so far taken 89 wickets in 70 T20 Internationals on 17.7. At the same time, Abhishek Sharma has two centuries and two half -centuries. Varun’s mystery bowling is also constantly harassing the batsmen in T20 format.
Team India is in Group A, where it will face UAE, Pakistan and Oman. The first match against the UAE on 10 September, a high-voltage match against Pakistan in Dubai on 14 September and the last match of the group stage against Oman will be played in Abu Dhabi on 19 September.
