Notorious Maoist leader has passion for studies, now preparing to do master’s degree after graduation..!
Berhampur. Top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, who is serving life imprisonment in Odisha’s Berhampur jail, has expressed interest in pursuing MA in Public Administration through Odisha State Open University (OSOU) this year. Panda did his BA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) two years ago.
He is one of the six prisoners who have submitted documents for enrollment in the two-year MA (Public Administration) correspondence course at OSOU. Four of the six are convicts, including 55-year-old Panda and two are undertrial prisoners.
Senior Superintendent of Berhampur Circle Jail, DN Barik, said that we have collected documents of six prisoners, including Panda, who are willing to take admission in the two-year MA (Public Administration) course through correspondence course. Jail teacher Sanatan Khillar said that study material will be provided after their admission.
The prisoners will prepare independently and appear in the examination. Panda was arrested in Berhampur on July 18, 2014. Since then he has been in jail, accused in more than 130 Maoist-related cases in different districts. A local court has sentenced him to life imprisonment on charges of waging war against the country.
