America entered into peace agreement with Congo and Rwanda.

Washington: After ceasefire in Iran and Israel, US President Donald Trump had said that he would soon get a peace agreement between Congo and Rwanda. Now America has got success in this. The two neighboring countries of the African continent, the Republic of Congo and Rwanda on Friday signed a historic peace agreement in the US arbitration. The agreement is being considered as an important step towards ending decades of violence in Eastern Congo and ensuring access to the US government and companies in this mineral -rich region.

Congo and Rwanda were in war since

On this historic occasion, US President Donald Trump met the foreign ministers of the two countries in the ‘White House’ and said, “Today a long chapter of violence and destruction is over. Now the entire region is going to start a new chapter of hope, opportunity, harmony, prosperity and peace.” The agreement was concluded in the Treaty Room of the US State Ministry, where Congo Foreign Minister Therese Kaikwamba Wagner and Rwanda Foreign Minister Olivier Naduhunungirehe. During this time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the agreement as “a decisive moment after the struggle for thirty years”. Why the struggle was going on between the two countries for nearly 35 years.

Millions of people killed so far in the struggle of both countries

Congo is a huge country in Central Africa. Over the last several decades, more than 100 armed groups have been plagued by violence. Many of these powerful groups have the support of Rwanda. Millions of people have lost their lives in this region since the 1990s and millions have been displaced. Although the agreement is considered a promising step, many analysts believe it will not completely eliminate conflict. Some major rebel groups have boycotted the agreement not considering it as applicable to them.

Will the agreement be stable?

In a joint press conference held after the agreement, Wagner said, “Some wounds will heal, but their marks may never be erased.” At the same time, Rwanda Foreign Minister Naduhungirehe said, “We are entering an indefinite time. Although this agreement is a ray of hope, but still a lot to be done. If it is not implemented as last time, the situation may deteriorate again.” He also said that with the constant support of the US and other international partners, concrete progress can be made on the path of peace this time. During this time, he also appreciated the cooperation of the Gulf country of Qatar, which provided arbitration and support in the process.

What will America do if the agreement is broken

When Trump was asked what would be the reaction of America if this agreement was broken, he clearly said that he does not think it would happen. But he also warned that if the agreement was violated, the responsible party would have to pay a “very heavy price”. This agreement is not only a diplomatic success for the US, but also from an economic point of view, as the Congo region is rich in precious minerals, which are used in global technical products, especially electronic devices and batteries. With stability in this region, American companies will get legal and safe access to these minerals. (AP)
