‘Now it was yet to be seen’, the match had to be stopped due to sunlight
Many types of bizarre incidents have been seen in the years old history of cricket, but the incident that happened during the T20 blast is hardly to see you again. Cricket fans may have seen the match many times due to poor light and rain, but on Wednesday, the T20 blast match between the Kent Spitfire and Glucestershire at St. Lawrence Ground in Cantorbury had to be stopped due to a peculiar reason.
Actually, this match had to be stopped due to the sun. Chasing a slight target of 158 runs, Glustershire’s openers made a brilliant debut but “Sun Stopd Play” faded the team’s start at 8:15 pm local time. The pair of Miles Hammond and Darcy Short went out of the ground when Roshni was directly into their eyes.
Glucersher Cricket posted on the social media platform X and posted: “Suraj stopped the game. Instead of rain, batsmen are having sunlight. To protect the players, both teams have come out of the pitch. The score is 29/0 (3.2).”
However, when the matches resumed, Glossarshire achieved the target by losing seven wickets in 18.2 overs, scoring a brilliant half -century. Taylor scored 54 off 36 balls, with a good support of Oliver Price, who won his team by scoring 41 off 31 balls.
If you are thinking that this is the first case of hindrance in sports due to sunlight, then it is not so. Napier’s McLeen Park was seen in a similar interruption during the third T20 between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2020, when it became difficult for the batsmen to see the ball due to sunlight. The domestic team stopped the game till sunset before starting their innings. Earlier, a similar blockage was seen on the same ground during the ODI between New Zealand and India in January 2019.
