- A decade ago, the Government of India launched a scheme – a scheme that gave a new direction to the lives of millions of youth across the country. When Mohan, who lives in a small village in Bihar, used to make fun of his friends about his studies. - What is Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana?
- The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 July 2015. Its main objective is to make the youth of the country employable and lead them towards self -sufficiency. Under this scheme, youth are given short term training in different sectors so that they can become proficient in some professional skills.

- Three types of training are given under the scheme:
- Short Term Training: This training is for school/college dropouts who are looking for a job.
- Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL: Those who already have skills in a field are certified.
- What is the purpose of the scheme?
- The basic objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana are:
- To enhance the skill capacity of the youth of the country
- Reduce unemployment and increase employment opportunities
- Encourage self -employment
- Give a chance to financially weak and backward classes
- Special focus in border, tribal and Naxalite affected areas
- Special things about this plan
- Free training: The candidate does not have to pay any type of fees.
- Certificate and Placement: On completion of training, a certificate is received which is valid across India. Placement facility is also provided.
- Induction Kit: T-shirt, jackets and bags etc. are given to the students participating in the scheme.
- Soft skills: Along with technical knowledge, students are also trained in soft skills, digital literacy and financial literacy.
- What more facilities are available under the scheme?
- Online counseling: Youth gets the right guidance towards their skills, career and course.
- Insurance protection: Accident insurance is also given to students taking training under the scheme.
- Cooperation in self -employment: Youth who want to start their business instead of jobs, are also given necessary training and guidance.
- Job Fair and Interview: Under the scheme, job fairs are organized in many states where companies directly hire youth.
- How much financial help is available in this scheme?
- In some courses under PMKVY, during training, a stipend of up to ₹ 8000 per month is also given, which gives students financially support.
