New Delhi: A strong Indian side clash against Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Ahead of the World Cup match against Sri Lanka, In a video released by ICC, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma revealed that the Wankhede Stadium was his best venue because his journey in the course of becoming a successful international career started from here.

“Wankhede is such a special venue, my best venue. What I am today as a cricketer because of the learning that I have had and that has all happened at Wankhede. So nothing can beat that”, said the Indian skipper.

Rohit further added that cricket fans residing in Mumbai love the sport and called them ‘true cricket fans’. The match against Sri Lanka would also be special because when India and Sri Lanka last met at the Wankhede Stadium in the tournament, India lifted the World Cup trophy after 28 years in the 2011 edition beating Sri Lanka by six wickets.

“Mumbaikars love their cricket and you can see the buzz at Wankhede Stadium, it is crazy. It has got those little zones in the stadium specifically that north stand which is you know the most famous stand at Wankhede the crowd there the people who come are true cricket fans,” added Rohit.

Rampant run for Rohit in World Cup

Rohit has been in imperious form in the ongoing tournament scoring 398 runs in six matches with his best of 131 in 84 balls coming against Afghanistan in New Delhi. Not only he scored his seventh World Cup century but also surpassed Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record of six centuries in the mega event. Apart from the game against Australia, Rohit gave India flying starts and his quickfire knocks against Pakistan (86), Bangladesh (48) and New Zealand (46) laid the foundations for India’s resounding victories.

The fans and former cricketers saw a different Rohit in India’s previous game against England at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow where the captain led from the front scoring a gritty 87 in 101 balls that eventually earned him the Player of the Match award. Rohit’s knock and the Men in Blue’s bowling performance led to the Jos Buttler-led side getting thrashed by 100 runs.
