Odisha Vigilance Department raids 7 locations of DFO

The Odisha Vigilance Department on Sunday took major action against Nityanand Nayak, a divisional forest officer working in Kendu Leaf Division in Kenjhar district. During the raid, property worth crores has been recovered including 115 plots, a four -storey luxurious building, Rs 1.55 lakh cash, 200 grams of gold, two cars, several weapons and furniture made of precious teak wood during the raid. The Vigilance Department started raids at 7 places simultaneously on the properties of Nityanand Nayak on 20 July 2025. These raids were killed at their private and government locations located in Angul, Kenjhar and Nayagarh districts. During the raid, 7 Vigilance teams, including 3 DSPs, 10 inspectors and several supporting staff. Vigilance investigated on the basis of search warrant issued from Special Court, Vigilance, Kenjhar.

Where was the red killed?

  4. Son’s house, Komanda, District- Nayagarh
  5. Nayak’s official quarter, Kenjhar
  6. Son’s office, PHC, New-Komanda, Nayagarh
  7. DFO Office, Kendu Leaf Division, Kenjhar

According to the property revealed by the Vigilance officials so far, a four-storey building of about 9000 sqft in Tunga of Angul from DFO, a total of 115 plots purchased between 1992-2024, 53 plots named after the hero, 42 plots named after the wife, 16 plots named after the wife, 16 plots named after two sons and 4 plots in the name of daughter. All plots are located in Chhandipada of Angul. The registered cell deed value of these plots has been stated to be around ₹ 2.5 crore, but the real price may be much higher as the land registration is feared underworcery.

Cash of Rs 1.55 lakh and 200 grams of gold gems also received

About ₹ 1.55 lakh cash has also been received from DFO’s house. In the raid of Vigilance, 200 grams of gold jewelery has also been found from DFO’s house. Not only this, the DFO was also very fond of precious teak and furniture. A large quantity of furniture, interior and decorative items made from teak wood have been recovered from their hideouts. Vigilance has also attached DFO Nayak’s 2 cars (Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Skoda Woakeswagen Warts), 4 two -wheelers, household items that have an estimated price of around ₹ 15 lakhs. The amount of deposits in the bank, insurance and post office of the hero is going on.

Job and promotion timeline

  • 1992: Admission to Government Service as Forest Ranger, Training in Angul Forest College
  • 1992-2015: Nayak remained forest ranger in Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Sonpur, Nuapada districts during this time, during which he bought 66 plots
  • 2015: Promotion in OFS, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF)
  • 2015-2022: Nayak Khadiyal and Raigadha served as ACF in Division, during which he bought 39 plots
  • 2022: Deputy Conservator of Forests became PCCF (Wildlife) Posting in Office
  • He bought 8 plots between 2022 and 2024
  • 2024: The hero was appointed in DFO (Divisional Forest Officer), Kendu Leaf Division, Kenjhar and till now he had bought 2 plots.

The Vigilance Department is currently evaluating the entire property of the hero. All the property found in the name of him and his family is more than the known sources of their income. Therefore, he has been detained and being questioned on charges of disparoportionate assets (DA). The department says that the investigation is still going on and further assets can be revealed. The total assets figure is likely to increase.
