Jefferson and Adams were struggling with illness

In 1826, when the US was celebrating its 50th anniversary of its independence, both Jefferson and Adams had become elderly. Jefferson was 83 years old and fell ill in his Monticello home in Virginia. On the other hand, Adams, at the age of 90, was suffering from increasing age diseases in Massachusetts’ home. The health of both of them was bad for several months, but it was a coincidence that both died on the same day on July 4. Jefferson’s condition was critical since morning.

First Jefferson, then Adams left the world

According to historians, he was repeatedly asking, ‘Is today 4 July?’ Like he is waiting for this special day. By noon, he breathed his last at around 12:50 pm. On the other hand, Adams, who was in Massachusetts, left the world at around 6 pm on the same day. Adams is said to have the last words, ‘Thomas Jefferson is still alive.’ He did not know that Jefferson had passed a few hours earlier. This coincidence was so shocking that it was discussed a lot throughout America.

James Munro died at daughter’s house

The term of 5th President of America James Munro was from 1817 to 1825. He was also an important leader of the time of Declaration of Independence. He made a major contribution in strengthening America’s foreign policy, especially through ‘Munro Siddhanta’, in which he warned European countries not to interfere in the cases of America. By 1831, Munro was 73 years old and his health was very bad. He was staying at his daughter’s house in New York City. On 4 July 1831, he too said goodbye to this world.

There was political feud in Adams and Jefferson

3 Presidents on the same date, that too on July 4, is a great coincidence. This date was so special in the history of America that people started looking at it as a miracle. The friendship of Jefferson and Adams and then enmity also makes this story more interesting. The two together laid the foundation for America’s independence, but later their political ideologies separated. Nevertheless, in their last years both of them started friendship again through letters.
