The online gaming promotion and regulation Bill, 2025 and the Income Tax Act, 2025 (August 22), after the approval of President Draupadi Murmu, has become officially made law. Parliament approved the bill earlier this week, which was approved by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (August 20) and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday (August 21). Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav, who operated the bill, described it as a “balanced approach” that encourages e-sports and online social games as well as banning money-based harmful gaming practices.

What did Ashwini Vaishnav say on the online gaming bill

Vaishnav told Parliament, “The bill attempts to promote positive aspects of gaming, such as teamwork, strategy and learning, as well as focus on the disastrous results of online money gaming, which has become a public health concern.” The minister said, “Just as Chit fund ruined families until the law was brought to stop them, the danger of money gaming should also be addressed.” He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continued to prioritize the welfare of middle class and youth in such policy decisions.

President approves new income tax law

Apart from this, President Draupadi Murmu has approved the Income Tax Act, 2025, which replaces the old Income Tax Act, 2025. The new Income Tax Act will be applicable from the beginning of the next financial year. The new Act will simplify the tax laws and reduce the number of words in the law, which will make it easier to understand. The Income Tax Department said in a post on the social media forum ‘X’, “The Income Tax Act, 2025 has received the approval of the Hon’ble President on August 21, 2025. It is a historical reform to replace the Act of 1961 that introduces a simple, transparent and compliance-friendly direct tax system. ”
