Pakistan came on the backfoot.

After the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India announced the postponement of the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan has been badly furious since this move of India. This is because the entire economy and agriculture of Pakistan rests on the water received under the Indus River Agreement. Now Pakistan is constantly demanding relief from India in this matter. Pakistan has once again urged India to restore the Indus Water Treaty.

India rejected permanent arbitration court decision

In fact, Pakistan had lodged an objection to the design of two hydroelectric projects under the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty in the Permanent Arbitration Court in Hague. Action started in the court regarding this. However, India did not give any recognition to this action. India had also completely rejected the court’s decision in this case on Friday.

What did Pakistan request India?

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in its statement that the supplementary decision of the arbitration court confirms that the Indus Water Treaty is valid and functional. Pakistan has said that “we urge India to immediately restore the normal functioning of the Indus Water Treaty and fully fulfill its obligations of the treaty.” Pakistan has said that the Indus Water Treaty should be retained both literally and the emotion.
