According to local media reports, the prisoners snatched weapons from policemen and started firing. During the firing, one prisoner was killed and five were injured. Three FC personnel were also injured in the shootout. About 73 prisoners were arrested from different areas. The police have also detained 9 suspects.

Sindh prison minister Ali Hasan has taken cognizance of the incident of prisoners from Malir Jail. IG Jail and DIG have sought reports from jail. He has directed that the area be siege. The prison minister said that the absconding prisoner will be caught under any circumstances and the officials who are negligent in the incident will be identified.
