The Pakistani Navy has a total of 8 active diesel-electric submarines. Most of them have been purchased from France and China.

Hashmat Class

Pakistan has 2 number of Hashmat Class submarines. These are diesel-electric submarines that were purchased from France in the 1970s for the Pakistani Navy. By the way, it is very old but still Pakistan is operating them.

Agosta 90B- Class (Agosta 90B Class)

Pakistan has a number of Agosta 90B-class submarines. One of these submarines is equipped with an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system so that it can remain under water for a long time. These submarines are equipped with torpedo and anti-ship missiles.

Hangor Class

Pakistan is buying submarines with state -of -the -art AIP technology from China under the ‘Hungor Class’ submarines. Pakistan will take 8 such submarines from China. In 2023, Pakistan started working in this direction and by 2028 Pakistan will have all these submarines. 4 of these submarines will be built in China and 4 in Pakistan.

Nuclear submarine status

While India has nuclear power -powered submarines, Pakistan currently has no nuclear -powered submarine. However, it has been feared that Pakistan is trying to develop the ability to carry nuclear weapons in its submarines. Currently, Pakistan has 8 active diesel-electric submarines and 8 new state-of-the-art AIP submarines are going to join its fleet in future.
