Parliament second day of monsoon session: opposition MPs on Bihar voter list issue

On the second day of the monsoon session of Parliament, there was a lot of uproar in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The opposition protested against the voters list in Bihar, inside and outside the House against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The MPs also demanded the PM’s reply on issues like Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and discussion in the House.

Previously, a few minutes after the commencement of the Lok Sabha proceedings, it was postponed till 12 noon. The Lok Sabha proceedings started again amidst the uproar of the opposition, but were postponed until 2 pm shortly after.

Several leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in the Lok Sabha, stood on the stairs of Parliament House at Makar Gate and protested against Bihar SIR. Similarly, opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha raised slogans demanding a discussion on the investigation of the voters list in Bihar.

Due to the uproar of the opposition, the proceedings of both houses of Parliament were adjourned till 23 July. The meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be held again at 11 am on Wednesday. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government is ready for discussion, but the opposition is wasting public money by protesting.

Before the second day’s proceedings, there was a meeting of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Parliament House. Union Minister JP Nadda and other ministers also participated in it. At the same time, the leaders of the India coalition also held a meeting.
