Patna will get new gift, water metro will run in Ganga, Union Minister Sonowal announced this
Capital of Bihar Patna is going to get another big gift. Water metro will soon run in the Ganges river of Patna. The announcement has been made by the Union port, shipping and waterway minister Sarbananda Sonowal. He said that water metro services will soon start in Patna. Let us tell you that earlier this year, the Inland Waterways Authority of India started a detailed feasibility study for this project, and the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL)- which operates a successful water metro service was asked to assess its capacity on the Ganges and its tributaries.
Why prepare to run water metro in Patna?
It is difficult to widen the roads of Patna. The roads are already struggling with jam. Most of the roads are often victims of jams, causing everyone to be troubled by office going to school children. Patna’s layout and river borders limit the scope of road expansion. The city is surrounded by Ganga in the north, Son near Hajipur in the west and Punpun in the south. This geographical location, brakes on the expansion of the road. Therefore, water metro is coming out a better option.
What is water metro?
The water metro is a boat system that uses electric or hybrid vessels. This model in India was first launched by the Kochi Water Metro in 2023. Patna’s proposed watermetro is directly inspired by this model. The Water Metro is designed as a complement to the upcoming rail metro of Patna, the first phase of which is about to open on August 15. The city’s new blue line will connect Patna Junction to inter-state bus terminal, and water metro terminals are expected to be planned near major transport centers, residential areas and markets to ensure uninterrupted final-mile connectivity.
