People used to be afraid of name, Devigram kept changed, what is the story of ‘bloody village’

There are many villages in Uttarakhand which are known for their beauty as well as unique names. There is a village in Pithoragarh which is called ‘Khooni Village’. But the name of this bloody village has now changed and the government of Uttarakhand has now changed its name to ‘Devigram’. For a long time, the people of this village had been demanding to change the name of their village because, due to this dreadful name, the elders, children and old men of this village had all mentally disturbed. Now people have got rid of this name and a new name of the village has also been found.

Former ONGC general manager Lalit Mohan Joshi had demanded the change of the name of this peculiar village and did many things with the villagers to give the village a better identity. The people of the bloody village also tried to change the name of their village for years. For this, the villagers had put their problems in front of MP Ajay Tamta and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, after which the Dhami government of Uttarakhand issued a notification to change the name of the bloody village to ‘Devigram’ after the consent of the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 18.

How did this village be named bloody village?

There are about 60 families living in the bloody village and the village population is around 380. Although there are no accurate documents related to the name of this village, the villagers tell many popular stories about the name of their village. People say that during the British period some British came here and started torturing the local people. But the people of the village did not bow down to the British, they bothered very bravely and shed a lot of blood in this struggle. It is said that due to this bloody struggle, the village was named ‘Khooni Village’. The elders say that long ago there were many supernatural and unpleasant incidents, causing many dreadful stories about the name of this village.
