The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition protesting 20 per cent of ethanol. With this, it has also become clear that the countrymen will not get the option of ethanol free petrol. The issue of ethanol in the country is hot these days. Meanwhile, a petition said that the countrymen should also get the option of ethanol free petrol. Chief Justice BR Gawai and K Vinod Chandran heard the entire case and on behalf of the government, India’s Attorney General R.K. The petition was dismissed after hearing Venkatarmani’s side.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Sadan Farasat presented the petitioner’s side. Citing the NITI Aayog’s 2021 report, he said that petrol with 20 % ethanol is not suitable for vehicles made before 2023 in the country. This reduces the mileage of vehicles by six percent. The lawyer also said that the petitioner is not against the ethanol petrol. He only wants an option of petrol without ethanol for older vehicles.

Government’s side

India’s Attorney General R.K. Venkatarmani said that the petitioner is just a name. The big lobby is working behind him. The government made this policy keeping all aspects in mind. Sugarcane traders are benefiting from this. People sitting outside the country cannot decide what kind of petrol will be found in the country. The CJI then dismissed the petition.

What is the matter?

The government in India adds up to 20 per cent ethanol in petrol. This benefits sugarcane farmers and their sugarcane is sold at a high price. However, it affects the mileage of vehicles. Some reports say that adding ethanol in petrol reduces the mileage of vehicles and many vehicles are also disturbed. However, the government has denied these reports.
