Officials said that PM Modi completed 4,078 days of his tenure on Friday. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister for 4,077 days in a row from 24 January 1966 to March 24, 1977. Narendra Modi has equaled Jawaharlal Nehru’s record for winning his party in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections. Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and remained in the post till he took over the post of Prime Minister in 2014.

At the same time, the first Prime Minister Narendra Modi, born after independence, is also the longest non-Congress Prime Minister. Officials said that Gujarat-born Narendra Modi is also the only non-Congress leader to complete two full tenure as the head of the central government. “Modi is the only leader of all Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers of India who won six consecutive elections as leaders of a party. It includes Gujarat assembly elections in 2007 and 2012 in 2002, 2007 and 2012 and Lok Sabha elections in 2012,” an official said.
