Why did Trump and PM Modi not get in Canada?
Trump has been constantly claiming that he did not agree to stop the fight, threatening to stop trade with the two countries, and has been constantly rejecting the claim. Trump had requested Prime Minister Modi to come to America while returning from Canada, which the PM did not accept by citing ‘former commitments’. Modi and Trump had a program to meet on the sidelines of the G7 Summit but the meeting could not be held due to the US President’s premature departure before the summit. Due to this, the two leaders interacted on the phone, in which the military conflict between India and Pakistan between 7 and 10 May was prominently talked about.
What else did PM Modi say to Trump on the phone
Misri said, “Prime Minister Modi clearly told President Trump that during this entire development, there was no discussion on the Indo-US trade agreement at any level or any arbitration of the US between India and Pakistan at any level.” Misri said that PM Modi said in clear terms to President Trump that after the April 22 terrorist attack, India has informed the whole world about its determination to take action against terrorism. According to the Foreign Secretary, PM Modi told the US President that India had targeted only terrorist bases in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. He said that India had also made it clear that a strong response would be given to any action of the attack from Pakistan.
