Chinese Foreign Minister is on a tour of India
The meeting has been held at such an important time when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is on a 2 -day visit to India. Apart from this, this meeting is Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar’s visit to Russia, which is a sign of India’s efforts to strengthen relations with both Beijing and Moscow amid uncertainties in its business relations with the United States.
The meeting is recently taking place after the US imposed 25% tariffs on Indian goods, which aims to punish India on oil purchases from Russia. President Donald Trump’s tariff may affect Indian exports up to $ 40 billion including gems, jewelery, textiles and shoes. In addition, the sixth round of Indo-US bilateral trade talks to be held on 25–29 August has been postponed.
In response to the US tariff, Prime Minister Modi in his Independence Day speech advocated to move to indigenous (Made in India) products and reiterated India’s commitment to protect his farmers, fishermen and cattle ranchers.
