Dwarka expressway: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give a big gift to Delhiites on Sunday, in which PM Modi will inaugurate two major national highway projects costing about Rs 11,000 crore in Rohini today, which aims to reduce traffic jam problem in the National Capital Region, Delhi and improve connectivity. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, these projects-Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway and urban expansion road-II project, is an important plan for Delhi to reduce a wide congestion.

The PM will launch these schemes in Rohini at around 12:30 pm and will also inspect both projects. The PMO said in a statement on Saturday, “This initiative reflects Prime Minister Modi’s approach to the creation of a world -class infrastructure that makes life easier and ensures uninterrupted dynamics.”

Know what are these schemes

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 76 km long urban expansion route-II (UR-II), designed as the third ring road of Delhi and is an estimated cost of ₹ 6,445 crore.

The PM will also inaugurate the 29 -km long Dwarka Expressway, including its Delhi Khand and the tunnel route to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

These projects are expected to reduce travel time from Noida to IGI Airport and reduce congestion on Delhi’s Ring Road, NH-48, NH-44 and Barapula elevated corridors.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PM Modi will flag off four out of five packages of UER-II, which will connect Mahipalpur near IGI Airport to Alipur in North Delhi.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth phase of the Dwarka Expressway will also be unveiled, including a 5.1 km long tunnel connecting the road directly to the IGI airport.

A senior NHAI official said, “Both these roads will significantly reduce the congestion around Delhi and NCR.”

Specialty of UER-II project

Length: 75.71 km (54.21 km in Delhi, 21.50 km in Haryana).

Cost: ₹ 6,445 Crore.

Package: Total five; Four are being inaugurated today.

What will be the benefit

This new highway project will make it easier for people to come to NH-44, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Dhaula Kuan and the Ring Road of the city from Gurugram, western and south Delhi.

Built using about 1 million metric tons of passive ingredients obtained from bio-mining of old waste of landfill in Delhi, the project is a major step towards durability.

The UER-II will start from the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, starting from the Akshardham Temple, which will provide fast routes from Haryana and Rajasthan to Dehradun.

A new highway from Tronica City to the under construction FNG Expressway has also been approved. In future, this corridor will add five major expressways of NCR: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, Noida-Greater Noida, DND-Feridabad and Yamuna Expressway.

Specialty of Dwarka Expressway

Delhi section: 10.1 km, including a tunnel leading to IGI Airport.

Haryana Block: 29 km between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on NH-48, which was inaugurated in March 2024.

The Dwarka Expressway, which is a total of 29 km long, has been developed in two parts in Delhi and Haryana. The 10.1 km long Delhi section includes a 5.1 km long tunnel that connects the corridor directly to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, providing a fast and easy access to the airport.

The 29 km long Haryana section between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on National Highway-48 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in March 2024.

After being fully commissioned, there is a significant improvement in connectivity for passengers of West Delhi and nearby NCRs on the Delhi-Gurugram road, busy with this expressway.
