PM Svanidhi Scheme: Government has given good news, increased deadline, know new date
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the restructuring of the loan period of Prime Minister Street Vendor Self -reliance Nidhi Yojana i.e. PM Swanidhi Yojana and further expansion from 31 December 2024. The loan period has now been extended to 31 March 2030. The total budget of the restructured scheme has been fixed at ₹ 7,332 crore, which will benefit 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries.
Responsibility for the implementation of the scheme
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (DFS) will be implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. DFS will be helpful in issuing loans and UPI-Linked RuPay Credit Cards through banks and financial institutions.
Major changes and facilities
Loan amount increased:
First installment: ₹ 10,000 → ₹ 15,000
Second installment: ₹ 20,000 → ₹ 25,000
Third installment: ₹ 50,000 (as before)
Rupay Credit Card Facility:
The beneficiaries paying the second installment will get UPI-Linked Rupe Credit Card, which will give them credit assistance immediately.
Incentive on digital payment:
Cashbacks up to ₹ 1,600 on retail and wholesale digital transactions will give a boost to digital transactions.
Extension of the plan:
Now the benefit of the scheme will not be limited only to legal cities, but census will be increased gradually to cities, semi-urban and rural areas.
Skill development of street vendors
Under the scheme, vendors will be trained in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, financial management and marketing. Food vendors will also get training in cleanliness and food security with the help of FSSAI. Through the monthly ‘Public Welfare Fair’, the benefits of government schemes will be provided to the vendors and their families, so that their overall socio-economic development can be ensured.
Achievements so far (till July 2025):
Over 96 lakh loans distributed (₹ 13,797 crore)
68 lakh active beneficiaries
More than 557 crore digital transactions (₹ 36.09 lakh crore)
₹ 241 crore cashback provided
46 lakh profiles, 1.38 crore scheme sanctions under self -reliance ‘prosperity

The scheme has become not just financial assistance, but has become the medium of empowerment, business expansion, and digital inclusion of street vendors. Its expansion by 2030 is an important step towards making the urban economy alive and self -sufficient.
